"so many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality. what we really want seems impossibly out of reach and ridiculous to expect, so we never dare to ask the universe for it. i am saying… that you can ask the universe for it."
jim carrey

it finally set in last night that yes, i am now 27 and it is enough to send me into a full-blown panic attack. the lady at the rec-center counter offered me the youth rate membership price and i was all smiles until she glanced at the screen and was like... wait, you're 27?? my facebook feed screams late twenties as it's drowning in baby announcements and questions like, how do i get my baby to sleep through the night and i'm over here like ahhhhhh.

27 is going to be a wild year. i can feel it. a year of firsts, a year of travel, a year of climbing, and a year of change.

as always, my birthday comes with a list of to dos. so without further ado...

27 things before 28
1. legally change my last name to fromm
2. make 5 new lifelong friends
3. maintain an exercise regimen so i can run a 50k
4. love my body :: wear sunblock, floss daily, sleep more, exercise, eat brightly colored fruits and vegetables, and stop abusing my body with diet soda and too much sugar
5. begin learning a new language
6. get over my road rage problem... it's starting to affect my mental health
7. touch my feet to my head in a handstand
8. climb a v9 boulder
9. on-time birthday presents for every family member
10. bike around utah lake
11. go on a road tip to joshua tree in our bus sunshine
12. visit a new continent
13. lean a new trick on the wakeboard
14. kiss my husband on the top of ancient art tower
15. play a song on the violin for my mother
16. cut the umbilical chord of child and welcome him to life!
17. tattoo my wedding ring
18. visit the wave - coyote buttes with afton
19. go on at least 1 river trip
20. earn $10,000 to help save my friend josephine!
21. lead a trad climb
22. picnic and mountain bike ride around antelope island
23. restore my grandparents typewriter and write someone a letter
24. finish our back patio and have a big bbq with friends
25. train june to bring me her leash, to bow, and to put her toys away
26. paraglide at the point of the mountain
27. and when/if we have/adopt a baby, prove the "i can't wait until you have children...." spiel wrong. i will still love my dog and i will still go climbing. :)

but most importantly, i am going to enjoy another 365 day journey around the sun.
much love,
kenny.

t h e e v e

from the eve of my 26th birthday-january 21, 2014

i sit here as the minutes tick by. eventually, time will indicate that another year has gone by.

tonight i have eaten nineteen reese's peanut butter cups, gave my sick husband a massage, and i am now watching junior (yes-the one where arnold schwarzenegger gets prego). i changed it after sitting down to a reality show that made it clear i wasn't beautiful enough, nor do i have enough money. sure, it is me comparing and my comparison rests on a fallacy, a downright lie perhaps. all beautiful, rich people are happy, successful, and never lonely. but this idealization does violence on my reality, so i choose not to watch that happen.

i am allowed to do this.

i'm getting older. what brought on my aging anxiety?

i find myself in a awkward state.
i don't identify myself with those younger. i am much more mature.
and i don't identify with those older as i will never age.

i am in a waiting stage. what happens next?

i have started to take notice that being young is rarely as freeing, and old-near as miserable, as the stereotypes would have me believe. but what is twenty six?

sitting here, i reflect on the last year, the twenty fifth year. it's happened. as i think about the last year, i wish i would have gone to bed earlier, made my husband more dinners, and put more focus into relationships.

goodbye 25th year.
by the way: who is reese? his peanut butter cups are my favorite.

happy birthday michael jackson

h i s b i r t h d a y

it's the husband's birthday today.
he is now twenty five
(a quarter of a century)
old... yet so so young.

things you should know:
my husband is ridiculously good looking.
he can climb with one leg like its nobody's business.
he is the cook and the better driver.
he is giving, sweet, and everyone's best friend.
i could dance all night, every night with him.
he doesn't hate a soul and is the most humble.
he will hate that i am writing this.
he puts me in my place and is just
as wild and random as me.

and i can still remember seeing him
for the first time in alaska.
i am so happy i said yes to alaska.
i said yes to camping.
and i said yes to boise.

"we will look back on these few days during our eternal time together and chuckle.. realizing it only helped with the production and creation of strength between us."

note from casey
on our lovely honeymoon days after his surgery.

since this is arguably one of the most
romantic songs... this is for him.

"so give me your forever
please your forever
not a day less will do
from you"

happy birthday to
casey lane
he turns the big 24 today.
i'm way sad he's at work in nevada,
but we're going to celebrate as
soon as he gets home on tuesday.

i can't believe i get to be lucky
enough to spend my life with him.
he is the funniest, sweetest, and most
thoughtful person i have ever met.
he is perfect.
and there is no doubt i will
love everyday of my life with him.

a m y f r o m m

loving this little song today.
watching blue valentine tonight
recommended by the lovely

amy fromm.
it happened to be her
birthday on tuesday.
ever since casey and i
have been together, amy has
been one of my best friends.
we share thrift store obsessions
and love for amazing music.
we tell each other pretty much everything,
p a r t y   t o g e t h e r
and joke about telling our future kids
all about our crazy days.
"your aunt amy and i..."

can't wait.

best thing that was
said to me yesterday-

life is like a book. each day is a new page. may your book be a bestseller with adventures to tell, lessons to learn, and tales of good deeds to remember.

N O V E M B E R 1 3

today is linly's birthday!!!
the big 18
i use to think she was a witch
cause she was born on Friday the 13th
linly is hands down the most
beautiful and sweetest person i know.
she would even do my chores when we were little.
she use to also be the shyest kid ever.
seriously.
(crying and hiding behind the couch when
our family would sing her happy birthday)
that wore off quickly though.

she was so excited this morning to tell me
she can now by dry ice. hahaha

to all the boys that come over
and buy her flowers and take her
on fancy dates-
stay away!

to all my guy friends-
stop asking to date her.

she is still my baby.

i told my dad i am sad to turn 23 in january.
he said "in anyone's book, you're an old maid"
:(
